Student Artist Below: Mara Congour; USAG Level 8 competitor, 2013 graduate of Montrose High School. Mara will be attending college in Bolder, Colorado. "My art background stretches back to when I was four years old and my Mom showed me how to draw people with knobby knees. Since that moment, I've never stopped. I have had the privilege to take ceramics classes during high school. I really enjoy working the clay; It's always surprising how a project turns out, because it never emerges from the kiln quite the way you imagine. But that's a good thing; it definitely makes ceramics interesting. I enjoy working with pencils and oil pastels just as much. What starts as a small doodle may bloom into a truly beautiful piece. I am also planning to broaden my media range and begin painting. I love art because it gives me a way to communicate without words. It has in fact nudged me in the direction of my planned major in college. It is because of art that I aspire to become an architectural engineer. I want to channel my flow of creativity into a course to make a lasting beauty". [Below is a sample of my work on display at Snow Shadow Sports Institute Arts department]
